English26 *'Relinquishing attachment, averse to egotistic talk, endowed with tenacity and enthusiasm, unmoved either in success or in no-success; such an agent is said to be Sattva-dominated.* (631)
By dropping all desires for fruit, the branches of the sandal trees growing on 'Malayagiri' mountain go on growing straight and long, or the betel plant (नागवेल) even though without fruit, has the object of its plantation fully secured; in that way, he (Sattvic agent) performs all day to day and occasional actions. But the absence of the fruit does not render the actions 'of no avail.' How could a fruit yield a fruit? Besides he performs plenty of (good) actions with sincere regards like the assemblage of clouds at the time of rainy season, and yet feels no conceit as their agent. While turning out actions in plenty, actions fit to be dedicated to the Supreme, he takes due care to keep to (proper) time, to select a suitable place, and when there arises any doubt as regards the fitness or otherwise of an action he decides the issue in the light of Scriptures; he brings harmony between his natural inclinations and senses, not allowing the mind to turn to the (action) fruit, observes the restrictions in regard to self-control, and secures fortitude, quick, watchful and sufficient to bear the strain of observing all these rigid checks. He never looks to his own physical comfort, while doing actions out of love for gaining his 'Self'. He rids himself of laziness and never feels the pangs of hunger and keeps comforts away from his body. And in such a state, he feels even greater enthusiasm for actions in the way gold attains greater fineness as the alloy in it is burnt out, even though losing in weight. If there be real love (for anything e.g. motive-free actions), one holds as a straw his very life, in the way a Satee's body is observed to be full of horripilation (which springs from the emotion of intense love) as she leaps into the funeral pyre of her husband. Would one, O Dhananjaya, literally selling himself to the beloved—his 'own 'Self' (soul) feel unhappy (merely) because his body languishes? There- fore, as the desires for enjoyment of sense-objects get diminished, and the more one gets rid of the conceit about his body, the greater pleasure he feels in performing actions. While doing actions in this manner, should by chance any action remain incomplete, he feels no uneasiness about it, in the way a cart crashing down a precipice does not feel unhappy in any way. On the other hand, should the action reach its successful completion, he makes no parade of his success. One, Oh Son of Pāṇḍu, found doing actions endowed with such signs, should, in substance, be called a Sattvic agent. Now the signs of knowing a Rajasic doer, Oh Dhananjaya, are that he is the very abode of worldly-desires.

English'Muktasaṅgaḥ'—As a Sāṅkhyayogī, is free from attachment, so is a Sāttvika doer, free from attachment, desire, lust, necessities and a sense of mine for objects, persons and incidents and circumstances etc. A Sāttvika doer, remains completely detached.
'Anahaṃvādi'—He is free, from the sense of doership and so he never boasts of his actions, like men possessing a demoniac disposition. He is not proud, even of his equanimity or freedom from attachment, to the world.
*binā bicāre jo karai, so pāche pachitāya kāma bigarai āpano, jaga meṁ hota haṁsāya jaga meṁ hota haṁsāya, citt meṁ caina na pāvai khāna pāna sanamāna, rāga raṅga mana nahim bhāvai kaha giradhara kavirāya, karamagati ṭarata na tāre khaṭakata hai jiya māhim, kiyau jo binā bicāre
'Dhṛtyutsāhasamanvitaḥ'—A Sāttvika doer, is endowed with firmness and enthusiasm. A man, possessing firmness performs his duty, without being disturbed by odds, difficulties, obstacles and blame etc., while a man endowed with enthusiasm, discharges his duty with zeal, equally in success and failure, honour and dishonour and in praise and blame etc. Thus a Sāttvika doer, remains endowed with firmness and zeal.
'Siddhyasiddhyornirvikāraḥ'—A Sāttvika doer, remains unaffected in success and failure. He neither feels elevated, when an action is accomplished easily, nor does he feel dejected if it is not accomplished in spite of best efforts. He remains equanimous, in success and failure.
'Kartā sāttvika ucyate'—Such an agent, who is free from attachment, is non-egoistic, endowed with firmness and zeal, and who is unswayed by success and failure, is called sāttvika.
In this verse, there are six characteristics—attachment, egoism, firmness, zeal, success and failure. A sāttvika doer, is free from the first two, he is endowed with the middle two and he remains equanimous, in the last two.
Appendix—In the Gītā equanimity or unaffectedness in success and failure has been mentioned in three verses—'siddhyasiddhyoh samo bhūtvā' (2/48), 'samaḥ siddhāvasiddhau ca' (4/22) and here 'siddhyasiddhyornirvikāraḥ'. It means that success or failure is not under the control of a man but it is within his power to remain unaffected by success and failure. Whatever is within his power, that is to be set right.
'Anahaṃvādi'—A Sāttvika man never boasts of himself outwardly that no person can do so well as he can, and does not regard himself to be superior to others inwardly.

(18.641) त्यों-त्यों — जैसे सोने का आग में रखने से वह तौल में कम होता पर कस में उत्तम होता जाता है वैसे ही — वह अधिक-अधिक उत्साहित होता जाता है;

Sri Udiya Baba · Modern
Swami Ramsukhdas · Modern
Now Lord Krishna describes the threefold effects of the three guṇas or modes of material nature on a performer of activity beginning with sattva guṇa the mode of goodness:
1) mukta- saṅgaḥ is free from attachment and exempt from desires for results.
2) anahaṃvādī is free from egoism as the doer and hence devoid of pride.
3) dhṛtiḥ is fortitude and determination in surmounting all odds for accomplishment.
4) utsāha is enthusiasm and zeal in undertaking prescribed Vedic activities.
The words siddhy-asiddhyor nirvikāraḥ means equipoise in success or failure of all activities, realising that all results are under the auspices of karma or reactions to actions and the ultimate will of the Supreme Lord.
Such consciousness is situated in sattva guṇa.
