The word avyaktaḥ means unmanifested or unperceivable this is because the eternal soul being totally transcendental to the material existence cannot be practically examined as can objects which possess qualities of a physical nature.

The word acintyah means inconceivable because the eternal soul is impossible to perceive by the mind and the senses being in every way transcendental to the material substratum which is what the consciousness of the living entities base their understanding on.

The eternal soul differs from all other existences and levels of existence in transcendence. Therefore it is avikaryah unchangeable and immutable.

The Supreme Lord Krishna instructs that by knowing the eternal soul to be immortal there is no cause for grief.

Gītā Tātparya NirṇayaSanskritEnglish

He is not visible because HE is unmanifest. How does He appear thus endowed? He appears endowed because of His power of being unthinkable, which does not come about from any other external source. He does not perform actions but is known through all His actions. To clarify this the words एनम् अयम् are used in different contexts. Even so in the case of Jivas, (of being uncleavable etc.) All these are (further) confirmed by Scriptures. “The Body, pleasures and fragrances, Light of the Wisdom, impeccable bravery, the best of the wisdom and best of the pleasures are all, verily, those of Sri Vishnu, the Supreme Imperishable Person” thus, in Paingi Scripture.

प्रमाणावगते तत्र उत एव ह्ययुक्तता ऽ इत्यादि परमश्रुतिः |” - Scriptures speak the Supreme Lord to be both, possessed of body as well devoid of body. Because His body is not constituted from the elements of the Nature, it is said to be अदेहः. The head, the feet, the arms etc. of the body are formed of the Lord Himself. There exists nothing distinctive, which can be called His body; therefore he is called अदेहः. He Himself is His form, because of which it is called fragment of the divine body - देहांश. The head, the feet, the arms etc. are the forms of pleasure, wisdom etc. Other than Sri Vishnu, none else is competent to think of His form. There never ever is for Him the coming together as body or becoming severed as a body. His attributes and his beauty are spoken only because of knowing Him as the repository of all attributes. The awareness I am this - अहमित्यात्मभोग is the experience which is common to all. Even though such awareness is distinct, this experience is perceived as special, even though it is special; it is not also seen as distinct from one's own self. How can there be no manifestation for Him when Sriman Naaraayan Himself is the very Supreme Resplendence! Proper and Improper are both subservient to Him. When there is evidence for these how can there any impropriety? Thus in Parama Scripture.

“गुणः श्रुताः सुविद्वाश्च देवे सन्धश्रुता अपि नैवात्र शङ्का | चिन्त्या अचिन्त्याश्च तथैव देशाः | श्रुताश्च नाज्ञेहि तथा प्रतीता | इत्यादि च ऋग्वेदे सोपर्णशाखातङ्ग्याम् || एकमेवद्वितीयम् | नेह नानास्ति किञ्चन | मृत्योः स मृत्युमाप्नोति य इह मामेव पश्यति | यथोदकं दुर्गे वृष्टं पर्वतेषु वधावति | यथोदकं दुर्गे वृष्टं पवपत्तेषु विधावति | एवं धर्मान्पुक्ष्यश्च स्तानेवानुविधावति || एकमेवद्वितीयम् |, नेह नानास्ति किञ्चन | मृत्योः समुत्पुष्पात्तिय इहनानेव पश्यति ||” - The attributes which appear contradictory in normal context, there should be no doubt when spoken about the Lord in scripture. Faults perceived during reflection or non-reflection are due to ignorance. They do not exist in reality. (Therefore the attributes) are self-evident thus in the Suparna section of Rigveda. “The One only, without the second; there was nothing else whatsoever. The Death was enveloped by Death. Nothing else was visible. Like the waters that have fallen on the mountains flow down in various streams, whoever sees the attributes of Lord in various manifested forms goes down in merit: Whoever sees even little of difference, in tile descents in the form Kurma (tortoise) and others, in his attributes and actions, and also in the different parts of His body, he will repair to the (world of) darkness. Therefore, the person who desires to know the Lord should know Him as indivisible”. One without a second. There is nothing of diversity here. Whoever perceives any thing like multiplicity here goes death to death.

“मत्यकूर्मादिरूपाणां गुणानां कर्मणामपि | तथैवयवनां च भेदं पश्यति यः क्वचित् || भेदाभेदो च यः पश्यति यति तम एव तु | पश्येदभेदमेवैषां वृषभुः पुरुषस्ततः || अभेदेऽपि विशेषोऽस्ति व्यवहारस्ततो भवेत् | विशेषिणां विशेषस्य तथा भेदविसेषयोः || विशेषितु स एवायं नानवस्था ततः क्वचित् | प्रादुर्भावादिरूपेषु मूलरूपेषु सर्वशः || न विशेषोऽस्ति सामर्थ्यं गुणेष्वपि कदाचन | मत्यकूर्मावहाश्च नृसिंहवदुभार्गवाः | राघवः कृष्णबुद्धौ च कल्किव्यागैरेतकाः || दत्तो धन्वतरियज्ञः कपिलो हंसतापसी | शिशुमारो हयास्यश्च हरिः कृष्णश्च धर्मजः || नागायणस्तथेत्याद्याः साक्षान्नरायणः स्वयम् | ब्रह्मादुदी शेषविषौ शक्यादा नरदस्तथा || सन्तकुमारः कामभवोऽप्यनिरुद्धो विनायकः | सुदर्शनाद्युधानि पृथ्वाश्चक्रवर्तिनः | इत्याद्या विष्णुनाविष्टा भिन्ना संसारिणो हरेः | तेष्वेव लक्ष्मणाद्येषु त्रिष्वेवं च बलादिषु || नराजुनादिषु तथा पुनरावैश उच्यते | स्वल्पस्तु पुनरावैशो धर्म पुत्रादिषु प्रभोः || एतज्जानाति यतस्मिन् प्रीतिरभ्यधिका हरेः | सङ्करज्ञानिनस्तत्र पातस्तामसि च ध्रुवम् | इत्यादि महावराहे ||” - Even if any difference is seen in the forms, attributes, actions and limbs of Mataya, Kurma and others the same should be understood to be the result of common understanding. There is no distinctive difference whatsoever between special attribute and special manifestation or in his distinctive attribute and indivisible aspect. There is similarity in all respects in His manifested form and His original form. There is no difference between His special attribute and His special strength. Mataya, Kurma, Varaha, Nrisimha, Vamana, Parashurama, Rama, Krishna, a Buddha and Kalki; Vyasa, Mahidas, Datta, Dhanvantari, Yajnya, Kapila, Hamsa, Tapasa, Shimshumara, Hayagreeva, Hari, Krishna son of Dharma, Narayana all these are the forms of Sriman Narayan Himself. Brahma, Rudra, Shesha, Garuda, Indra, and also Narada, Sanatkumar, Manmatha, Aniruddha, Ganapati and weapons like Sudarshana. Emperors like Prithu are all manifestations of Sri Vishnu. These Jivas being subject to Samsara are separate From Sri Hari.

On verses 2.22–2.25

22 "Just as, laying aside out-worn vestments, a person puts on others, new ones; so laying aside out-worn bodies, the body's owner passes on into others, new ones. 23 "Him cleave not weapons; him burns not fire; neither do the waters drench him, nor does the wind desiccate him. 24 "He is uncleavable; he is unburnable; he is undrenchable, as also undesiccatable. Eternal all-pervading, stable, immobile is he, enduring from yore. 25 "Non-manifest-unthinkable-immutable is he called, hence as thus knowing him, thou dost not do well to grieve after him. (144)

Just as we cast off worn out vestments and put on new ones, in the same way does the soul cast off worn out bodies and take on new ones. He being without origin, eternal, extremely pure without any limitations is ever beyond the reach of destruction with any mortal weapons. This soul can never be drenched in torrential waters, nor can fire burn him, nor can the wind desiccate him. O Arjuna, the soul is eternal, stable, immobile and all-pervading. O Kiriti, he is non-manifest and unthinkable. Meditation is ever eager to be able to see him. He is difficult to be comprehended by mere mental act nor can he be realized through any practical means. O Arjuna, he is limitless and the best of all the best. He is unaffected by the three Gunas (सत्व, रजस्, तमस्), has neither a beginning, nor an end, nor any manifested form, nor attribute, but is all-pervading. O Arjuna, once you come to know him as such, you will cease to grieve after him.

'Avyakto'yam'—The soul unlike a body is unmanifest, because

it cannot be perceived by any one of the senses.

'Acintyo'yam'—Mind and intellect etc., cannot be perceived by senses but they are thinkable. But this soul is inscrutable.

'Avikāryo'yamucyate'—The soul is immutable i.e., it does not undergo any change while matter is changing, all the time. The cause of the entire creation is matter. That causative nature (matter) is subject to change. The soul is beyond any change, as it is transcendental.

In the twenty-fourth and twenty-fifth verses, Lord Kṛṣṇa has described the soul, by giving eight adjectives of negation and four adjectives of affirmation. But the fact is that it cannot be described in words, because how can tongue illumine the soul, which is an illuminator of the tongue etc.? Therefore, this realization about the soul is, its real description.

'Tasmādevam viditvainaṁ nānuśocitumarhasi'—Thus, by knowing (realizing), the soul as uncleavable, incombustible, unmanifest, everlasting and immutable etc., one cannot grieve.

*Link:—In the next two verses, Lord Kṛṣṇa says, that even if one thinks of the soul as changeable, (which is against the basic principle), one should not grieve.*
