Everywhere from every angle of vision could be seen infinite amounts of unlimited arms, stomachs, faces, and eyes.

The word Viśveśvara means Lord of the universe and Viśvarūpa the divine universal form denotes the Supreme Lord to whom all the cosmos is part of His transcendental body.

As the Supreme Lord Krishna is Anantā or endless it is understandable that He has no beginning, middle or end and this was perceived by Arjuna.

'Then there were everywhere hands and feet' also in Rigveda and 'Of unlimited vision, He has unlimited countenance, with unlimited arms and also unlimited feet. With His shoulders That One Lord creates the gross forms and the three spaces and the earth as well' in Yajurveda.

विश्व denotes the unlimited, everything, and everywhere, unlimited, endless and complete in all respects, thus also having been said. “Endless arms, endless feet, endless forms, this One Lord possesses” - thus in Babhravya section. If the word महात् is understood as His Self, then the subsequent statement ‘supreme Brahman without beginning’ becomes contradictory. अनन्तान्यस्य रूपाणि means innumerable are his forms and also his forms are innumerable “Superior to the Supreme, who is greater than mahat, who is One, the unmanifest unlimited forms”, thus in Yajurveda. The unlimited form of the unmanifest (prakriti) having unlimited form, mahat been established. “Having enveloped the mahat and being the representative form of the Primal Person, without beginning or no end to the Prakriti or its activities”, thus in Aditya Puraana. There is no limitation to any of His forms. His body is spoken as having many forms of Wisdom, all are without any conclusive termination, thus in Rigveda. Whatever limit there is in the outward space, the same space is within the heart also. Both space and the earth are, verily, encompassed within similarly by Agni, Vayu, the Sun and the Moon as well.

- Having been bent over by the weight of Sri Krishna and having been hurt on the back by His kick, Sheha having head like an umbrella, hid behind his wife, thus in Bhagavat Puraana. This is not improbable because of the inconceivable power of the supreme Lord. “Inconceivable, indeed are these responses; they are not possible to be resolved by arguments” thus in Vishnu Puraana. Not by reasoning can the probable or improbable (events in Lord’s life) can be explained, thus avers the scripture. Otherwise, by conclusive evidences strange inferences can be drawn (like non-awareness by Him who is the very embodiment of Wisdom). Otherwise it will be like saying that there is nothing like a pot without having seen earlier anything of the form of a pot. “One hears of attributes in the Lord, which contradict in reference to other people. But this does not constitute any defect in the Lord. They are to be considered in that manner only from the view point of one who is unaware. But the defects which are heard in others are seen to have been so established according to their capability”. Thus in Jabala scripture. It is only as a form of normal usage that the word in the middle is used. Otherwise it is clearly established when the words, neither in the beginning nor in the end are used. Universal Form (Vishwaroop) means complete form in entirety (not of the form of the universe) “He is of innumerable forms; not of limited forms. Since there is no end to His forms they are called anant - without any end”, thus in Shandilya section

16 *“With manifold arms, bellies, mouths and eyes, Thee possessing countless forms, I behold in all directions. Neither end, nor middle, nor again any beginning of Thee do I behold, O Lord of the universe, that dost possess every form (in the universe).”*

Looking around with the light of the spiritual eye, I see myriads of arms as if the whole space of the sky was shooting forth arms on all sides. So too I behold thy hands busy, doing all actions in one and the same moment. And boundless are thy bellies, meeting my eyes like treasures of whole universes opened on the great void (the unmanifested Brahman). And a single glance meets a thousand of the heads that turn up by crores in a moment as if the tree of the supreme Brahman, laden with fruit borne on thousands of heads, has bent low. Thus, Oh Omnipresent Lord, are visible on all sides myriads of faces as also multitudes of rows of their eyes. This is nothing: even all talk of heaven and earth, and neither regions and the eight quarters and mid-air (sky) has ceased, and I behold all and the one in the image of the Divine Presence, curiously wondering if there be a secluded nook, as small as an atom, wherein you are not. I find none such: so fully you have pervaded all being. By thine infinite Presence, I behold, Oh Anant, is packed the entire extent of Being—a compact mass of the five gross elements stored in the world. I mused, whence thou mayst be coming, whether thou art standing or sitting, what mother's womb bore thee, how big is thy figure, of what age mayst thou be, and of what appearance, and what may be beyond this, and what indeed may be thy support; now as I behold the light that illumines all, thyself are thine own support; born of no other being, thou art the self-existent being without beginning, self-same for all time: neither standing nor sitting, neither tall nor short: Oh God, thou art all everywhere, below and above. Oh, thou art like thyself than anything else: thou art as old as Eternal Being and thy parts are thy own Being. In short, oh Anant, as I see again and again, thyself art everything that belongs to thee. Yet, one blemish do I see in thine all-pervading Presence—Naught it has, a beginning or a middle, or an end. These have I searched in all places, and not a trace of these is visible: without doubt, there thou art without beginning, middle and without end. Thus have I seen thee All-pervading Being. From thine all-filling Presence body forth severally many incarnations, making thee as it were clothed in myriad coloured garments; or as if the separate beings were the trees and creepers growing on thy mountain-high Presence, and the splendid ornaments are the flower and fruit thereof. Oh Lord thou art the big ocean of Being, on which are tossed separate beings as waves: or, thou art a big tree laden with fruit of these separate images: or thou art like the earth, peopled with all kinds of beings, or like the sky studded with clusters of stars. So is thine all-pervading Presence revealing myriads of divine images. On thy body these spring like hair. A single part of this presence witnesses the birth and decay of whole universes. And who may this supreme Person be, that pervades all universes on all sides? Well, it is none other than the self-same person that drives the chariot for me (Lord Krishna). And methinks, Oh Mukunda, the all-pervading spirit of the universe, thou yet reveal thyself in this limited form of bewitching beauty to make thy devotees blessed in thy grace. Oh how beauteous is thy four-armed person of brownish colour, so charming to eyes and mind alike, so easily to be clasped by two hands in an embrace. Oh Thou, the Omnipresent Lord of the entire Universe! Thou wear this beautiful body out of thy divine grace, and what a pity that mortal men reckon thee no better! May that be as it is! The blemish of my human vision is now washed off: thou hast fitted my eyes with divine transcendent sight: so here I am seeing thy divine glory in full and in its grandeur. Only this day did I realise that this human figure sitting behind the crocodile-shaped front of the chariot is verily the Divine Spirit that fills the universe.

Arjuna uses, two vocatives 'Viśvarūpa' (Universal Form), and 'Viśveśvara' (Lord of the universe), to convey that this universe is nothing but His manifestation, and that He is also the Lord of the entire universe. The body of a human being, is insentient, while its master, the soul is sentient. But, there is no such distinction in the cosmic form of the Lord. In this form, everything is sentient. By the vocative 'Viśvarūpa', Arjuna declares, that He is the body and by the vocative 'Viśveśvara' Arjuna means, to say that He is the master of the body.

'Anekabāhūdaravaktranetram'—Arjuna saw the Lord, with countless arms, bellies, mouths (faces) and eyes.

'Paśyāmi tvām sarvato'nantarūpam'—Arjuna, saw His innumerable forms, extended on all sides.

'Nāntam na madhyam na punastavādim'—The cosmic body, as was revealed to Arjuna, was infinite, on all sides. Arjuna could know neither its beginning, nor middle, nor end, because there was no limit in it.

Arjuna, first used the term 'end', because he wanted to see the end of His body, on all sides, to know His stature. But, when he was unable to see it, he tried to see the middle and then the beginning, but it was of no avail. The order in which Arjuna viewed cosmic form is related here by this expression.

Appendix—Here is the description of the endlessness of the Lord's cosmic form. Even His fraction is also infinite. As in ink, is there any place where there is no script? In gold, is there any place where there are no ornaments? Similarly what is not there in God viz., naturally all is there in God.

(11.290) यह चतुर्भुज मूर्ति इतनी सुन्दर है कि इसे देखते ही मन और आँखें जुड़ाती हैं, और इससे लिपटने जाय तो यह दोनों हाथों में समा सकती है। (11.291) हे विश्वरूप! ऐसा सुन्दर रूप आप भक्तों पर कृपा करने के लिए धारण करते हैं न? हमारी दृष्टि दूषित है जो हम आपको सामान्य दृष्टि से देखते हैं;
