“स च यो यत्प्रभावश्चेति वक्तुं तज्ज्ञानसाधनान्याह - अमानित्वम् इत्यादिना | आत्माल्पत्वं ज्ञात्वाऽपि महत्त्वप्रदर्शनं डम्भः | ज्ञात्वाऽपि स्वात्मनोऽल्पत्वं डम्भो माहात्म्यभावनम् | इति ह्यभिधानम् | आर्जवन् मनोवाक्कायकर्मणामवैपरीत्यम् ||” - Having spoken about the Lord and his energizing powers, Sri Krishna now speaks the means of achieving the same. Being oneself of little intelligence, showing as though intelligent is arrogance. ‘Knowing one’s incapability and at the same time flaunting one’s greatness is arrogance’ thus having been declared. आर्जवन् righteousness means consistency in one’s thoughts, speech and actions.
“सक्तिः स्नेहः | स एवातिपक्तः अभिष्वङ्गः | स्नेहः सक्तिः स एवातिहृतोऽभिष्वङ्ग उच्यते | इति ह्यभिधानम् ||” - शक्तिः means comradeship; when it matures it becomes attachment. “तत्त्वज्ञानार्थदर्शनम् - अपरोक्षज्ञानार्थ शास्त्रज्ञानम् ||” - Receptivity to the Wisdom of the basic principles is through experience, reflection of the scriptural statements.

“तत्त्वज्ञानविषयस्य विष्णोरपरोक्षदर्शनं तत्त्वज्ञानार्थदर्शनम् | ज्ञायतेऽनेनेति ज्ञानम् ज्ञाप्निर्ज्ञानमिति एतज्ञानम् | इति ज्ञानसाधनं ज्ञानं चोक्तम् ||” - Sri Krishna speaks of the quintessential qualities and attributes to achieve the means to fulfil the highest purpose of human existence. Realization of the essential principles means experiencing Sri Vishnu’s supreme resplendence, in conjunction with Vedic Wisdom. That by which things become known is Wisdom. “This is said to be the Wisdom” thus Wisdom’s said to be the means of Knowing.

English9 "Absence of fondness and of passionate clinging towards son, wife, home and the like; and a constant Equanimity of disposition under all desired and undesired contingencies: (594)
He remains apathetic in regard to his person in the way a wayfarer sits (resting) in a carvansari. He does not harbour even as much attachment for his own household as one would for the shade of a tree under which he rests on his way. He never feels any attraction for his wife in the way one does not notice his own shadow even though it is ever by his side. He treats his progeny as if they were wayfarers only (temporarily) staying with him, or as if they were herds of cattle resting at noon time under a tree-shade. Even though in the midst of riches, he appears, Oh Son of Pându, as if he is there as a mere onlooker passing by. In short, he abides strictly following the directions contained in the Vedas, as if he is a parrot confined to a cage. Even though he never gets entangled in any fondness or passionate clinging towards his wife, home, or son, yet he is the foster-mother (resting place) of knowledge. To him both good and evil (things) are the same, in the way the summer and the rainy season are to the ocean. Pleasure and pain make no difference to his mind, in the way the three periods of the day (morning, noon and evening) make no difference to the Sun. One in whom there is never found wanting evenness of disposition like the sky—in such a one dwells incarnate, sterling knowledge, know ye.

English'Asakti'—Attachment to perishable worldly objects, persons and circumstances etc., is 'Sakti'. Absence of that attachment is called, 'Asakti'. A man, is attached to them, to seek pleasure, from them. He feels pleasure, while there is contact. But real joy, reveals itself, with termination of the contact (Gītā 6/23). So, it is indispensable to renounce, attachment for the mundane for a striver.
Remedy:—Pleasure, which is derived from the contact of senses, with their objects, seems like nectar at first, but is like poison in the end (Gītā 18/38). One, who enjoys pleasures born of contact, has to bear suffering. So, by thinking of their result a striver, is not attached to them.
'Anabhiṣvaṅgaḥ putradāragṛhādiṣu'—Close association with one's sons, wife, house, wealth and cattle etc., is really assumed. A man, is so much identified* with them, that he regards their sickness and death etc., as his own. So, a man should not identify himself, with them.
Remedy:—Render service, to your kith and kin, without expecting any service or reward in return. If they take pleasure, in
* Proper dealings and rendering of service to sons and wife is not identification, it is rather non-attachment which leads to immortality.
serving you, accept their service, without deriving any pleasure, out of it.
'Nityam ca samacittatvamiṣṭāniṣṭopapattiṣu'—Absence of joy and attachment, in the favourable circumstances and absence of grief and aversion, in unfavourable circumstances, is equanimity. In that state a striver, remains unaffected by all desirable and undesirable, happenings. In 2/48, the Lord has called it 'Equanimity' (Evenness of mind), in success and failure.
**Remedy:**—A striver, should utilize desirable happenings and circumstances, to render service to the beings of the world, without any selfish motive. Similarly, in undesirable happenings and circumstances, he should renounce the desire to receive favourable circumstances. He, should feel, neither happy in agreeable circumstances, nor sad, in disagreeable ones.
He should have a firm belief, that the desirable, as well as the undesirable circumstances, are a means to realize God. So, he has to transcend these and thus a striver attains equanimity.

Swami Ramsukhdas · Modern
