सोऽध्यायत् | इति च सामवेदे वाभव्यशाखायाम् ||” - Sovereign wisdom is the Prime Wisdom, प्रत्यक्षावगमम् known only through direct experience of Brahman. That which is established by alternate, archetype vision is Therefore, scripture says: “That which is established in breath is different than the Primal Breath, the presiding deity. This presiding deity will not know Him, but he is like the body for the Lord”. “That which is established in Speech”. “That which is established in the Eye” etc. “That Purusha, established within the eye, sees”, thus in Moksha Dharma. “Of the size of the thumb He who abides in the space of the size of a thumb”. “You (established) in the Mind, in the Moon, in the eyes and in the Sun etc”, thus in Baabhravya section of Samaveda. “Having established in each of the presiding deities of the sense organs as the perceiver, He is known as pratyaksha, (the archetype of the Eye). He who knows Him as pratyaksha becomes a man of wisdom” thus in Varuna section of Samaveda. Dharma is the supreme Lord; whatever is spoken about Him is the subject matter of Dharma. He upholds the entire world, therefore He is Dharma. As the upholder of Dharma, He is the pinnacle, thus in Moksha Dharma. The one who upholds the Perennial Principles is the equanimous One. Having supported the entire world, all the beings are also being supported, thus, in Samaveda. “In the beginning only the Lord as Dharma was known to exist, neither the earth, nor the wind nor the space; neither Brahma, nor Rudra, nor the Gods, nor the Seers””, thus in Baabhravya section of Samaveda.

English2 “It is a Sovereign Knowledge and a Sovereign Mystery: it is sanctifying as nothing else, and is capable of realisation in experience; it conforms to the Sāstra, is quite easy of accomplishment, and infallible. (47)
(It is that) which is enthroned on the majestic position of the most High Spiritual Teacher, in the Kingdom of all knowledge (विद्या) and which enjoys too the sovereign place amidst all secret truths, and is also the holiest of holies, which is the fountain of religious piety and is the highest good, and which when realised, leaves no room for births and deaths: which being initiated by the word from the mouth of the spiritual teacher is verily revealed as Self-being, in each and every heart, and is thus easily realised. On the same way of easy attainment, one meets with this Brahman as soon as one attains the step of the Bliss of the Self, and then the triad—the enjoyer, the object of enjoyment, and the actual enjoyment—are merged in itself. The soul, even on this side of the absolute enjoyment has a foretaste of that Supreme Bliss; such is then that knowledge, which besides being within easy reach, is in itself the Supreme Brahman. This knowledge has further excellence: once it is attained, it does not leave you, nor does it drain off by enjoyment nor is it stunted. Should you raise a reasonable doubt as to why such a thing (of such supreme worth) should be left out and spurned by mortals, why should those, who go through fire (and water) out of greed, for piling up their (capital) wealth by usury, deny themselves and spurn bliss of the Self so easily within their reach, this is indeed a reasonable doubt as to how the Bliss of the Self, the most holy and the most lovely and so easy of attainment, which is most sacred and unites one to the Self—such a thing full of happiness, should be left unsecured by the people. But do not entertain any such doubts.

English'Rājavidyā'—This knowledge with Realization, is a sovereign science, after knowing which, nothing remains to be known.
At the beginning of the seventh chapter, Lord Kṛṣṇa said, "After knowing My entire form, nothing else remains to be known." He declared at the end of the fifteenth chapter, "The undeluded person who knows Me, beyond perishable Matter and superior to the imperishable soul, knows all i.e., nothing else remains to be known to him."
So it seems that greater importance has been attached to the Lord Who is endowed with attributes and form in comparison to other forms whether manifest or unmanifest, attributeless or with attributes.
'Rājaguhyaṁ'—This is a sovereign secret, because in the
world there is nothing more secret, than this.
As an actor, in a play conceals his original identity, similarly, the Lord is not manifest to all (Gītā 7/25), because men devoid of devotion have a critical spirit. But, He becomes manifest to His loving devotees. To disclose his identity is something very secret.
**'Pavitramdam'**—This science is supremely holy and is a purifier. By this science, even the vilest sinner becomes instantly virtuous viz., holy and secures, lasting peace (9/31).
In the tenth chapter, Arjuna addressed Lord Kṛṣṇa, as the greatest purifier (10/12); in the fourth chapter, Lord Kṛṣṇa declared, that in the world there is no purifier like knowledge (4/38), and here He declares Knowledge with Realization, (by using eight adjectives) as a purifier. It means, that the Lord and His name, form, sport, place, thought, utterance, loud-chanting, meditation and knowledge etc., are holy and purify i.e., everything of the Lord is a great purifier, which purifies all beings.
**'Uttamam'**—This science, is super-excellent, because it makes My devotees, the most noble. One becomes so noble, that I obey him. About those devotees, the Lord declares, 'They abide in Me and I abide in them' (9/29) i.e., by being absorbed in Me, they become one, with Me.
**'Pratyakṣāvagamam'**—It is directly realizable. The more one knows it, the more uncommon, he becomes. As soon as, he knows it, he secures lasting peace. Thus it is directly realizable.
**'Dharmyam'**—It is virtuous. All the actions performed, for God-realization without a desire for fruit, are included in virtuous actions.
In the second chapter, Lord Kṛṣṇa said to Arjuna, 'There is nothing more welcome for a man of the warrior class, than a righteous war' (2/31). It means, that all actions performed according to one's caste and stage (order) of life, sanctioned by scriptures, are virtuous. Besides these, all the means for God-
realization and all divine traits, have also been called immortal Dharma (Righteousness), (Gītā 12/20).
‘Avyayam’—It is imperishable. The Lord has also said, that His devotee never perishes (9/31).
‘Kartuṇu susukham’—It is very easy to practise. How easy it is to offer a leaf, a flower, a fruit or water etc., to God, by regarding them as His (9/26)! If a devotee offers somethings to God, thinking these as his own, the Lord reciprocates them, an infinite times, more. But, if he offers them, to Him regarding them as His, He offers Himself to him. How easy it is! By doing so, He has only to rectify his error.
The Lord, is easily attainable, because He pervades everywhere, every time, in all the persons and things etc. Whatever is seen, heard and grasped therein, He pervades. All men are His, and He is theirs. But, they without realizing this real affinity attach importance to Matter and thus follow, a cycle of birth and death. If they pay a little attention to Him, they will perceive a singularity in Him, and will realize that they have no affinity with nature, but they have very innate relationship, with God.
Appendix—Karmayoga and Jñānayoga is ‘rāja-vidyā’ (sovereign science) and Bhaktiyoga is ‘rāja-guhya’ (sovereign secret). In the fourth and fifth verses of this chapter ‘rāja-vidyā’ and in the thirty-fourth verse ‘rāja-guhya’ has been specially mentioned.
‘Pratyakṣāvagamam’—It bears direct fruit. Peace is attained by Karmayoga, salvation is attained by Jñānayoga and love (devotion) is directly attained by Bhaktiyoga. By taking refuge in God, a man directly becomes free from fears, sorrows, worries and doubts. The realization of the self which is truth, consciousness is also direct. ‘Dharmyam’—It is not devoid of virtues, but it is virtuous, it is imbued with virtues. Having known it, the human life becomes successful viz., nothing remains to be done, nothing remains to the known and nothing remains to be attained.
'Susukham kartum'—It is very easy to practise because God is naturally attained. All is God— it needs no labour, it is mere acceptance. From the view point of Karmayoga, if the things, which are not ours but which are of others, are used is rendering service to others, what force is needed in it! From the view point of Jñānayoga, if we get established in the self, what force is needed! From the view point of Bhaktiyoga, if we surrender ourselves to God, what force is required! All these disciplines culminate easily.
'Avyayam'—In fact this is the imperishable and final entity beyond which there is nothing else.

Hindi।

Hindi(9.47) वह ज्ञान सुविधा के नगर में श्रेष्ठ आचार्य के पद पर विराजमान है। वह सब गुह्यों का स्वामी है, सब पवित्र वस्तुओं का राजा है;
(9.53) इस पर हे तर्क करनेहारे! तुम्हें ऐसी आशंका हो सकती है कि इतनी बड़ी वस्तु लोगों से कैसे बची रह सकती है;
(9.54) जो एक रुपया सैकड़े के ब्याज के लिए जलती हुई आग में कूदते हैं वे अनायास प्राप्त होनेवाले इस प्रकार के निज के माधुर्य को कैसे छोड़ देते हैं;
(9.55) यदि यह ज्ञान पवित्र और रमणीय है, तथा सुलभ और सुगम्य है, तथा सुखकारक और धर्मयुक्त है, और निज में ही प्राप्त होता है;

Sri Udiya Baba · Modern
Swami Ramsukhdas · Modern

This teaching is the greatest among all sciences; and the greatest among mysteries.
Alternatively “regal science” may also mean the science known and practiced by kings, and indeed kings are those who have broad and profound minds. In other words this is the science of great minds. This is a great mystery, because the great-minded alone are skilled in keeping secrets. This is the “supreme purifier”; for it removes completely all karmic obstructions which obstruct the attainment of the Supreme Being.
It is realised by “direct perception” — avagama is that which is apprehended: the subject of knowledge —the meaning is that Krishna, when meditated upon with loving devotion, becomes immediately directly perceptible.
Even so, it is inseparable from Dharma. Dharma here indicates that which constitutes the means for attaining the highest good. Though meditation (upāsana) is of itself, supremely good, as it brings about the vision of the Supreme Being, yet it is also the means for completely attaining Him, which is the final goal and the Supreme Beatitude.
Because of these reasons, it is “easy to practice”; and pleasurable to perform. It is “abiding” or imperishable because it does not perish even after leading to the attainment of Krishna.
That is, Krishna gives Himself totally to one who performs this form of meditation; even then it appears to Krishna that He has done nothing for the devotee —such is the meaning.
