“प्रतिंत विज्ञानमाह - अहं कृतुः इत्यादिना | कृतवोऽग्निष्टोमादयः | यज्ञो देवतामुद्दिश्य द्रव्यत्यागः - उद्दिश्य दामां द्रव्याणां त्यागो यज्ञ इतीरितः इत्यभिधानात् ||” - The wisdom previously spoken is again reiterated here. Ritual means sacrifices like agnishtoma etc. Sacrifice means renunciation of wealth etc. at the feet of the Lord. “It is also been said that in reference to the Lord the renunciation of wealth etc. is Sacrifice”.
“गम्यते मुमुक्षिभिः, इति गतिः | तथाहि सामवेदेषु वासिष्ठशाखायाम् - अथ कस्मादुच्यते गतिरिति | ब्रह्मैव गतिस्तद्वि गम्यते पापमुक्तैः || इति |” - Since He is the ultimate knowable, he is the goal. In that manner also in the Vashishtha section of the Samaveda: “... why is He said to be the Goal ? Because Brahman, verily, is the Goal. Since He is knowable by those who are freed from demerits”.
He is saakshi. He sees all this with His own eyes. Since He sees thus, He is known as saakshi. For the liberated, He is the shelter and also for those who are worried, thus in Bashkala Section of Rigveda. Supreme as well as the shelter to the liberated. At the time of dissolution, the entire universe becomes established in Him. Therefore he is the resting place. Having pure Vision, I saw the entire universe being established by Maya (the power of Illusion) in the Supreme Being.
“सत् कार्यम् | असत् कारणम् - सदभिव्यक्तरूपत्वात् कार्यमित्युच्यते बुधैः | असदव्यक्तरूपत्वात् कारणं च चापि शुद्धितम् || इति ह्यभिधानात् || असच्च सच्चैवध च यद् विश्वं सदसतः परम् | इति च भारते |” - सत् Existence is Action and असत् non-Existence is the Caused, the consequence. Existence is not evident in the beginning (becoming evident on manifestation, therefore,) the wise call it, the Action, non-Existence being the un-manifested form (of the manifested form) is called the Caused, the consequence, thus has it been explained. This verily, is made up of both सत् Existence and असत् non-Existence. Such is the universe. Both सत् Existence and असत् non-Existence are superior (to this Universe), thus in Bharata

“अर्च्यत्वादृक् समत्वाच्च निजरूपेषु साम सः | याज्यत्वात् स यजुयज्ञः सर्वज्ञात् पुरुषोत्तमः || कृतुः कृतिस्वपत्वात् स्वधाऽनन्यधृतो यतः | मानात् व्रातीति मनोऽयमुष्टानां निधिरीपधम् || आ ज्यायस्त्वादाज्यनामा दर्भो दरधरो यतः | आहूतत्वादभुतं चायमग्निर्नताऽगतेर्यतः || इत्यादि च |” - Since He is propitiated by all, He is ritual. Since all his forms are similar, He is साम. Since he is the object of sacrifice from all, He is यजुस. Being the knower of an sacrifices, He is यज्ञ or offerings. Since He is the motivator in universe, He is कृतुः the rituals. Since he is not supported by none other than Himself, He is स्वधा offerings to the ancestors. Since he is meditated upon, He is मन्त्र the Vedic chants. Since He is solace to the afflicted, He is ओषधी. Since He is superior, He is आज्य the first offering of ghee. Since He is दर, the holder of the conch. Since He is himself the oblation in the sacrifices, He is आहुति. Since He is the energizer of the earth, He is अग्नि.
“तत्त्वपदार्थभिन्नोऽपि तत्त्वन्मैवमच्युतः | स्वातन्त्र्यात् सर्वकर्तृत्वात् गुणानन्त्याच्च केवलम् | इति च | ओमित्याक्रियते यस्मादोकारो भगवान् परः || इति च | पातीति स पिता मानान्माता यत् स पितुर्महान् | पितामहो निधातृत्वान्निधानं भीरक्षणात् शरणं व्यञ्जनाच्चैव बीजमित्युच्यते प्रभुः || इति च | प्रलयकाले संहर्तृत्वात् प्रलयः | अन्यदाऽपीति मृदुः - प्राणगः प्राणधर्ता यदभृतं प्रविलापयन् | विश्वं प्रलय इत्युक्तो मृत्युरन्यत्र मारणात् || इति च | सत् साधुगुणपूर्णत्वादस्मान्नानो गुणाधिकः | यतोऽतोऽसदिति प्रोक्तं विष्ण्वाख्यं परमं पदम् || इति शब्दनिर्णये ||” - The Lord being Independent by Himself, is different from all the above things and yet inseparable from them. Being their essence, He is known by those things. Since He is referred to as ॐ in the sacrifices Sri Hari is ॐकार. He patronizes, therefore, He is the father; understands child's needs, therefore, the mother. Since He is superior to father of the creation (Prajapati Brahma) He is grandsire. Since He is the ultimate abode of the world, He is foundation. Since He shields the frightened, He is the refuge. Since He is the cause for the worlds, He is the seed, thus, the Lord is referred. Since at the time of dissolution, he destroys all, He is dissolution and on other occasions, He is the death. Since in normal times abiding in the body sustains life and distancing death, He is known as Immortal. In times of dissolution since he exterminates all, He is known as Death. Since He is known as Sri Vishnu, full of auspicious attributes, He is Sat. Since there is nothing else than Him, He is a-Sat as well. Thus, according to Shabda Nimaya.

English16 "I am the Vedic (Śrauta) Sacrifice, I am the secular (Smārta) Sacrifice; I am the Offer formula (Svadhā) for the Manes, *(I am) the Herb of medicine. I am the (Vedic) Formula of offering, I am the Clarified-butter; I am the Fire, and What-is-offered (into it).* (265)
Once the realization and knowledge of My being entire is there, the Vedas themselves—the fountain-source of all knowledge—are seen to be the same as My essence and obviously the Vedic commands of scriptural lore, are not different from Me. And again is My spirit too, Oh son of Pandu, the sacrifice that springs from the performance of the prescribed actions. I am also the Swadhā-Swadhā (hymns of offering oblations to Gods and Manes respectively). So too am I the sacrificial plant Soma and also the Ājya (sheep's clarified butter) and the Samidhas (समिधा—sticks of pure trees for kindling sacrificial fire). I am the Vedic hymns and the articles forming oblations: I am the presiding priest and the sacrificial fire is My own spirit: and I am thus all the sacrificial articles required for and helping the sacrificer.

[When a devotee according to his faith and reverence establishes his affinity with the Lord, in His manifold aspects, his affinity, is with the real, because in the universe, there is no existence besides the Lord. He should admit this fact, without having any doubt, that in the universe, apart from God, there is no object, no thought and no act. Similarly, the Lord is manifest in diverse entities—there is no doubt about it. If a doubt lurks, in mind how all objects can be the manifestation of God, this doubt, deprives the striver of emancipation. Rather, it puts him into trouble. Therefore, it should be accepted firmly, that in gross or subtle form, or as effect and cause, whatever is seen, heard, grasped or assumed, is only God. This all-pervasiveness of God, has been described, from the sixteenth to the nineteenth verse.]
'Ahaṁ kraturahaṁ yajñaḥ svadhāhamahamaṣadham'—'Kratu' is a Vedic ritual, while 'Yajña' denotes, sacrificial worship. The
offerings made to the manes is 'Svadhā'. Vegetables, food and medicinal herbs, such as seeds of the sesame plant, rice, barley etc., are 'Auṣadha'. The Lord Himself, is everyone of the above-mentioned things.
'Mantro'hamahamevājyamahamagniraham hutam'—He is, the sacred formula which is chanted, at the time of sacrificial worship. He is the clarified butter, the sacred fire and the act of offering oblation, into a fire.
'Vedyaṁ pavitramoṅkāra r̥ksāma yajureva ca'—The Lord, is the knowledge, of the method of sacrificial worship, which should be performed systematically, in order to satisfy desires or to get rid of them.
Acts of sacrifice, rewards and penance, are purifying to the wise (Gītā 18/5). In them the articles of oblations, which are offered without expecting a fruit and the action, which is performed without expecting its fruit, are also purified. That purity, is the Lord's manifestation.
Act of sacrifice, gifts and penance, as enjoined by scriptures, are always begun, with the utterance of the sacred syllable, 'Om' (Gītā 17/24). So the Lord is, Om.
The Vedas, deal with methods of Vedic rituals, and sacrificial worship etc. The R̥gveda, is the collection of aphorisms of sacred formulas, with a regular order of words, the Sāmaveda, is a collection of sacred formulas, and prayers, which are sung with a rhythm during sacrifices, and the Yajus, consists of sacred formulas with irregular order of words. All the three, are forms of the Lord.
'Pitāhamasya jagato mātā dhātā pitāmahaḥ'—The Lord, creates the entire universe. So, He is called the source and dissolution of the whole universe (Gītā 7/6). He also protects the universe, so He is father, as is also mentioned in the forty-third verse of the eleventh chapter.
The Lord, sustains the whole universe, in all respects.
He decides the destiny of all beings. Therefore, He is the sustainer.
The Lord, gives birth to beings, in different bodies according to fruit of their actions. So, He is the mother of the entire creation.
He, is the grandfather, because Brahmā, the creator of the world, is the father of the world, in common knowledge, and Brahmā is born of Him. From this angle, He is the father of Brahmā. Arjuna, has also called Him the Primal Cause of Brahmā, (Gītā 11/37).
'Gatirbhartā prabhuḥ sāksī nivāsaḥ śaraṇaṃ suhṛt'—The Lord, is the Supreme Goal of beings. He is the supporter of beings because, all sustenance comes from Him. He, is the owner and Lord, of the universe. He is witness because He knows all beings, all the time, very well. He is the 'Abode' (Nivāsa), because beings, rest in Him. He gives shelter, to beings, so He is refuge. He is a disinterested friend, because He is their well-wisher, without expecting any reward.
'Prabhavaḥ pralayaḥ sthānaṃ nidhānaṃ bijamavyayam'—The entire universe, emanates from Him and again merges in Him. So, He is the origin, (the material cause and the efficient cause) and end, of the entire universe (Gītā 7/6).
He is the resting place (Sthāna),* of the universe, because at the time of final dissolution, the entire universe (including Nature), merges in Him and rests in Him.
He is the storehouse (Nidhāna), because in all the states of creation and dissolution, etc., nature, the universe, soul and everything else, reside, in Him, only.
The Lord, is the imperishable seed, because an ordinary seed is born of a tree and then it perishes, when the plant sprouts up.
* 'Nivāsa' (Abode) is the place where beings reside during the span of creation while 'Sthāna' (resting place) is the place where the universe (including Nature) remains merged in the period of dissolution.
But, the Lord after creating infinite universes, remains the same, and is without origin and end. He can never perish.
**Appendix**—As from the view point of discipline of knowledge 'modes are acting on the modes' (Gītā 3/28), similarly from the view-point of a devotee, only God's objects are being offered to God. As a person worships the Ganges with Ganges-water, worships the sun with a lamp, worships the earth with flowers, similarly God is being worshipped by God's objects. The fact is that He Who is worshipped is God, the material for worship is also God, the act of worship is also God and the worshipper is also God.
The worldly seed is produced by farming but the unworldly seed in the form of God, is not a born one (produced), therefore the Lord in the seventh chapter declares Himself to be the eternal seed—'bijaṁ māṁ sarvabhūtānām viddhi pārtha sanātanam' (7/10). Here the Lord declares that He is the imperishable seed—'bijaṇavyayam'. The reason is that the worldly seed perishes, when the plant sprouts up, but the unworldly seed in the form of God by producing infinite universes, remains the same, there is not the least modification in the seed. It means that God exists at the beginning of the entire creation and also exists at the end of it. The entity which exists at the beginning and at the end also exists in the mid-state—this is the principle. As several earthen wares are made of clay, remain in clay and at last merge into clay, similarly all the seeds of the entire universe are born of God, abide in God and at last merge into God (Gītā 10/39). It means that the worldly seed perishes when it sprouts up but the imperishable seed in the form of God ever remains the same at the beginning, in the middle and at the end. Therefore at present only God manifests Himself as the world. There is nothing else besides Him.

I am the Kratu; which is the category of all the Vedic sacrifices such as the Jyotiṣṭoma and all the others. I am the Yajña —this refers to the fivefold daily sacrifices. I am the offering to the manes(Svadhā) —the libation offered to nourish the hosts of manes (Ancestors). I am the herbs —the grains that are offered into the fire. I am the Mantra —the formulae with which offerings are made. I alone am the clarified butter —which also implies other examples of offering too, such as the oblation of Soma juice etc. I am the fire —the three
ritual Vedic fires known as Āhavaṇiya, Gārhapatya and Dakṣiṇā. I am the act of oblation—the act of offering liquid into fire.
