Lord Krishna reveals that of things that purify and things that are the swiftest His vibhūti or divine, transcendental opulence is the wind.

The words śastra-bhṛtām means weapon wielding heroes of which His vibhūti is Rāma but unlike other vibhūti which are indirect, Rāma is an avatar or direct incarnation of the Supreme Lord Krishna who manifests Himself as Rāma the paragon of weapon wielding heroes.

Indirect Vibhūtis such as the Maruts or the Vāsus are still jīvas or embodied souls even though imbued with a filament of the Supreme Lords potency. In relationship to the Supreme Lord they are exactly like potencies serving Him as the weapons wielded by Rāma are likewise serving Him.

31 “Wind am I of those that speed, I am Rāma (of the Axe) amongst the weapon-wielders; of fishes I am the Crocodile (Makara), of streams I am the Jahnu-born (Ganges). (250)

I am, Oh Son of Pandu, the wind amongst the swift-footed beings, that encircles the earth and encompasses the seven seas with one bound in a flash. Amongst warriors (wielders of weapons) I am Rāma (that Rāma) who in “Tretā-yuga”, finding religion’s holy cause in peril came to its rescue by using his very person as bow, left no choice to the Goddess of victory but to crown him,—who standing on the top of the mountain named “Suveli,” cut off the heads of the mighty Lord of Lanka and offered them as sacrificial oblations, into the hands of creatures that shouted his glorious victory; Rāma indeed reinstated Gods to the rightful place of dignity and honour, gave new life to religion’s sacred trust and became the very luminary truly born of the solar race (सूर्यवंशी).

The Supreme one amongst the wielders of weapons, indeed Rāmachandra, the husband of Sītā, is myself. And crocodile I am amongst the tailed sea-animals. I am, O Son of Pandu, the greatest of all the streams in the three worlds, the Ganges, which while being brought to the earth by King Bhagiratha, was swallowed by King Jahnu (जन्हू) but which God released from his body by ripping open his thigh. Such are my different manifestations in the universe and not even half of these could be fully described during a thousand births.

'Pavanah pavatāmasmi'—Wind is capable of purifying all things. It makes bodies healthy, so it reveals Lord's glory.

'Rāmaḥ śastrabhṛtāmaham'—Though Rāma, is an incarnation of God, yet as far as the wielders of weapon, are concerned, Rāma is the best of all of them. So the Lord has mentioned, Rāma, as one of His divine glories.

'Jhaṣāṇām makaraścāsmi'—Among fish, the alligator is most powerful. Therefore the Lord names it as His divine glory.

'Srotasāmasmi jāhnavi'—Among rivers, streams and waterfalls etc., the Ganges, is the most sacred. Its water is holy, because it flows from the feet of Lord Viṣṇu. Believers by beholding or touching it, or drinking its water or bathing in, attain salvation. If a dead man's bones are dropped into her, she leads him to salvation. So she is the Lord's divine glory.

A striver instead of attaching importance to the Lord's divine glories, should attach importance to Him.

In the seventeenth verse of this chapter, Arjuna put two questions to Lord Kṛṣṇa "How may I know You," and "In what aspects are You to be thought of, by me?" The answer is, that he should think of the Lord, in all His divine glories. The result of that thinking will be, that he will come to know that, He is the root or origin, of all the divine glories. Thus, he will come to know the reality, about Him.

When a man, beholds any distinction, singularity or beauty in the universe, he gets entangled in it. But if he regards it as the Lord's, he will think only of Him, and thus will come to

know the reality, about Him. By knowing the reality, of His glory and power, one is endowed with unwavering devotion, to Him (Gītā 10/7).

Swami Ramsukhdas · Modern
