Madhva BhāṣyaSanskritEnglish“अनश्चेष्टयिता आदिश्च सर्वस्येति अनादिः | अजत्वेन सिद्धेरितरस्य ||” - अन means that which energizes all and आदि means earlier. Therefore, the Lord is अनादि, the energizer without any beginning. From the word अज His being unborn and without beginning is established.

Madhvācārya · Dvaita
Gītā Tātparya NirṇayaSanskritEnglish“अनस्याप्यादिरनादि” - अन means the Primal Breath. Therefore He is even prior to the Primal Breath.

English3 "Whoso amongst the mortals knows Me as uncaused and without beginning, and as the Supreme Lord of the worlds; he—delusion-free—is delivered from all sins. (72)
So incomprehensible is my absolute divine being, and is yet accessible to that rare seeker, who relinquishing all onward march of worldly life sets himself against all the sensuous enjoyment, or even when engaged in world-activities drops his selfhood and plants himself on the crown of the five elements of all material nature. Elevated to that supra-mundane existence with the pure light of self-knowledge, he sets his eyes on my divine essence beyond birth and death. The one, that thus knows Me as the pivotal Being beyond all change and beginning, as also the Supreme Lord of all worlds is indeed as a Paris, (a rarity) discovered amidst dead mass of living beings; also take My word for it that he is part of the divine essence amongst mortals as nectar is amongst liquids. Such a human being is the very embodiment of pure knowledge living and moving. His bodily life is, as it were, the very blossoming of supreme rapture of happiness; and his being in a human body otherwise is but another name for common delusion. A diamond that flashes out by chance in camphor does not dissolve in water dropped on it; in the same way, living and moving like all earthly mortals, he yet is an utter stranger to all taint of illusion of Prakriti.
As a serpent flees from a burning sandal tree, all sin, for very fear, keeps itself from touching a God-seeing man, and all sensual desires and passions leave him aside. And may not your mind be desirous of knowing the way to secure this all-seeing vision of My true and entire being? As to this, you will now hear about My divine essence and its emanations. These emanations have spread out amidst the created beings in all the three worlds, according to their several natures.

English'Yo māmajamanādiṁ ca vetti lokamaheśvaram'—Though, a striver cannot know the Lord in His entirety, yet he can know Him so much, that he can attain salvation. His knowledge about Him is that he can assume that the Lord is unborn, without beginning and He is the Lord of all the lords, of the different worlds. The Lord, is beyond time. The time which is referred in the world by days and months etc., is ordinary time, while the Lord is beyond time. This time rests in the Lord. The Lord is, eternal time. Such firm assumption removes, all doubts about His glories.
'Asammūḍhaḥ sa martyeṣu sarvapāpaiḥ pramucyate'—The Lord, is birthless, beginningless and is the Lord of all the lords. It means, that He is imperishable and the supreme sovereign, of the world. So, He pervades everywhere, everytime, all things and is the Lord of everyone. It means, that He is here, now, in him and his Lord also, while the world, is perishing every moment. Thus knowing the reality about the Lord, and the world, one
renounces his affinity with the world (including the body) and becomes free from the feeling of, 'Tness and 'Mineness'. Thus, knowing the truth, he is no more deluded and by becoming free, from the feeling of 'Tness and 'Mineness', he has affinity with the Lord, and becomes free from all sins, of the present and the past. Mere learning of affinity with God, will not serve the purpose. It is to be given a practical shape.
What is delusion? Delusion means, lack of knowledge, about reality. What is reality? The reality is, that a man cannot be identified with, the world and the body, while he cannot be separated, from the Lord. The man, who is free from this delusion can know Him, endowed with attributes and without attribute, endowed with form and formless in reality, and has not the least doubt, about His different forms, sports, secrets and glories etc.
Appendix—In the twenty-fourth verse of the ninth chapter the Lord by the negative inference said, 'He who does not know Me, has a fall.' Here by the positive inference He says, 'He who knows Me, is purged of all sins.'
Here the term 'vetti' means—'to accept firmly and undoubtedly' because God cannot be known by senses, mind and intellect (Gītā 10/2). Therefore God is not to be known but He is to be believed and realized. When even prakṛti cannot be known, then how can God, Who is beyond Prakṛti, be known? Realization means—to merge the self into God and to be one with Him by losing his independent identity. By becoming 'abhinna' God can be known, because in fact he (the self) is not apart from Him, he is 'abhinna' with Him. Similarly the world can be known by becoming detached from the world because in fact he is detached from it.
The great sages don't know the secret of His origin but they do know that the Lord is unborn and without a beginning. The self, being a fragment of God, is also unborn and without
a beginning. Therefore when he knows the Lord as unborn and without a beginning, he will know the self also the same (unborn and without a beginning) because the self by becoming identified (abhinna) with God knows God. By knowing the self as unborn and without a beginning, he becomes undeluded, then how will sins stay in him? The reason is that sins have accrued afterwards, the self is unborn and without beginning from time immemorial. 'Sarvapāpaiḥ pramucyate' means—to be free from attachment to the modes. So long as a man is attached to the modes, he can't be purged of sins because attachment to the modes is the root of sins.
In the verses fourth to sixth ahead there is discussion on non-delusion in which the Lord has declared Himself to be the origin of all. The Lord Himself is without beginning and is the origin of diverse feelings and great sages.

Sri Udiya Baba · Modern

He who, unlike other beings, exists ‘without being born’ at any particular time is ‘unborn’ in the sense of being eternal. This attribute denotes a unique state essentially different from both inorganic things which are subject to modifications, and from the Jīva involved in Samsara and conjoined with insensible matter. In this state of material involvement the birth of the Jīva is caused by Karma.
The term anādi meaning without beginning differentiates the Supreme Lord from the muktas or liberated beings in the spiritual worlds who although having become birthless did have a beginning at the time of their liberation.
The term ‘Anādi’, or without beginning, is used to distinguish the state of the Lord, which is distinct from that of the liberated Self.
Although the liberated Self is in fact also eternal, it can be said to have a beginning from the point of view that the state of liberation has a beginning. Previously the Self had been trapped in material nature, a state from which it had to be liberated.
Hence the term ‘Anādi’ implies that the Lord is without such involvement and does not deserve the same description.
The Veda also says: — ‘He who is stainless’ (Sve.Up., 6:19).
Thus, an undeluded person understands that Krishna’s nature is totally contrary to any association with negativity.
The term ‘delusion’ refers to the error of regarding Krishna simply as one among other divinities of the same kind. To be free of this delusion is to be ‘undeluded’ —such a person is released from all reactions of negative acts which obstruct the rise of Bhakti.
Another angle of vision is that as in the world the emperor although the most powerful monarch amongst humans, he still is like all others subject to old age, disease and death. Yet he has been awarded emperor by the Supreme Lord due to some act of merit.
This holds true also for Indra the king of all the devas and even higher with Brahma the architect of the material existence, both were also awarded their posts by the Supreme Lord as a result of great acts of merit.
Although they live for millions of years by Earth time calculations for them it is as 100 years and at the end of that time they die also and transmigrate into another form in another existence.
Even exalted beings come under the three-fold Bhāvanas of material existence being karma bhāvanā like Janaka and others, Brāhman bhāvanā like Sanaka and Sanātana and ubhaya bhāvanā like Brahma himself and are subject to birth and death according to their acts.
The Vedic scriptures confirm this. In Vishnu Purāṇa VI.VII.IIL it states that: Therefore they are all accountable for their acts.
The Śvetāśvatara Upaniṣad states:
“He who creates Brahma” (Sve. Up. 6:18).
This also applies to any mortal who has acquired the eight main siddhis or perfections such as anima or laghimā etc.
But the Supreme Lord is loka-maheśvara the Supreme Lord of all beings in all worlds.
Loka is the total cosmos being the aggregate total of all sentient and non-sentient categories in conditions of inactive latency or active patency.
The sentient includes both muktas or liberated beings as well as baddhas or not liberated beings. So all this is under the Supreme Lord's control and rule.
1) Maha is greatness and consists of the Supreme Lord being the storehouse of unlimited attributes of glorious qualities and His always being the eternal antithesis of all that is unrighteous, demoniac and evil.
2) Īśvaraḥ means Lord as being the supreme, sovereign ruler eternally, independent of all.
Thus the Supreme Lord is completely unlike all others, singular unto Himself alone, independent and superior to all.
One who does not incur the error of including the Supreme Lord Krishna amongst all the various other lesser gods and who understands Him to be the sole cause, the sole source and the sole origin of all creation, verily realises Him and by His grace is relieved from all reactions to previous actions.
Thus by illustrating how meditation on the factual absolute nature of the Supreme Lord removes the obstacles impeding the blossoming of bhakti or loving devotion unto the Supreme Lord causing such bhakti to become inaugurated;
Lord Krishna will next explain how bhakti may be activated by deep and profound meditation on His sublime transcendental divine qualities and attributes.
