“ब्रह्म परिपूर्णम् - अथ कसमुद्भूते परं ब्रह्म | बृहति बृहयन्ति च इति हि श्रुतिः | बृह बृह बृहि बृहौ इति पठन्ति | परमं यो महद् ब्रह्म इति च | विविधमासीद् इति विभुः | तथाहि वारुणशाखायाम् - विभु प्रभु प्रथमं मेहवानत इति | स ह्येव प्राभवद् विविधोऽभवत् इति | सोऽकामयत बहु स्यां प्रजयेय इत्यदेशः ||” - Brahman is entirely complete. Why is Brahman called the supreme? Because, He is complete and makes others also complete, say the Scriptures. बृह बृहि from these roots to suggest to expand. “Supreme is the Great Brahman”, thus it is said. Since it assumes various forms, it is said to be all-pervading, thus in Varuna section. “All pervading, Energiser the First among all. He, verily, expands to become the many”. “He willed, Let Me be many”. “विविधभूतयो विभूतयः |” विभूतयः means विविधभूतयः various manifest forms.

English15 “Thyself alone, O Best amongst the Purusas, dost know Thyself through Thy own self: O Thou that art the Originator of beings, the God of the Gods, and the Lord of the world. (176)
Just as the sky itself can know its boundless expanse or, the earth itself can feel the entire bulk of its mass, in that way, Oh Lord of Lakshmi, Thyself knowest Thine being and power; vain indeed is the boast of all the wits like the Vedas themselves that lay claim to have known Thine being. How indeed can one outstrip the mind in speed? Or how can any one clasp the wind within one’s arms? Or how again can one swim across, with unaided arms, the ocean of primeval void (आदिशून्य)? Equally hard is knowing Thee in full—indeed beyond any mortal’s ken. Nothing less than Thy infinite knowledge is equal to the task of realizing Thy true being. By Thee alone is Thy real self known: Thou too hast the power of Thy word, to make others realise Thee in Thine own being. I pray then, do Thou wipe away the sweat on my brow of life’s yearning to see Thee (make me see Thee). Thou hearest my words, oh Thou creator of the universe, the lion who destroys the elephant of illusory worldly life, the great and one object of worship to all Gods and spirits, and Thou supreme master of the universe! Standing ever in the presence of Thy glory as we do, we yet sink into nothingness whereby we cannot hold a candle to Thy infinite light. But to flinch, for fear of this unworthiness, from beseeching a favour of Thee, would make us utterly helpless. For the bird ‘Chakor’, all the deep waters of the oceans and rivers are indeed dried up, until the clouds sprinkle a few drops into his mouth. In that way, although many are the spiritual preceptors near and far, yet Thou, Oh Lord Krishna, art the one be-all and end-all of our existence. Let this be enough; now tell me about your emanations.

English'Bhūtabhāvana bhūteśa devadeva jagatpate puruṣottama'—Being the origin, of all beings even through His thought, He is 'Bhūtabhāvana', being the Lord of beings He is Bhūteśa; being the Lord of the gods, He is 'Devadeva'; being the preserver of the universe He is 'Jagatpate', and being supreme, of all the persons He is known as 'Puruṣottama', in the world, and in the Vedas (Gītā 15/18).
In this verse, five vocatives have been used for the Lord. In no other verse, in the Gītā, so many vocatives have been used, at a time, because, he is enraptured by listening to His divine glories and His grace for the devotees.*
'Svayamevātmanātmānaṁ vettha tvam'—He knows Himself, by Himself, without any external help of instruments etc. This knowledge, is beyond instruments. It is transcendental, and comes not through, instruments.
A conclusion, from the verse can be drawn, that as the Lord knows Himself by Himself, the soul, a fragment of the Lord should also know itself, by itself, because it cannot be known, by senses, mind and intellect etc.
Appendix—'You alone know Yourself by Yourself'—it means that You are the knower, You are the entity to be known and You are also the act of knowing viz., You are all. When there is no one else besides You, then who should know and to whom should he know?
If an effort is made to know the Supreme Reality (Divinity),
* Here 'Bhūtabhāvana', 'Bhūteśa', 'Devadeva', 'Jagatpate' and 'Puruṣottama' can denote the sun, Lord Śiva, Lord Gaṇeśa, Durgā and Lord Viṣṇu, the five great deities of the rank of the Lord. By using those five terms Arjuna means to say that He has manifested Himself as these five deities.
we are distanced from that reality because when a striver holds that there is some entity to be known, then he wants to know it. That Divinity is the knower of all, He is not to be known. No one can be the knower of the Lord Who is the knower of all.* As with the eye everything can be seen but the eye can't be seen with the eye, because the power of seeing of the eye is not the sense-object viz., powers of senses themselves are beyond the reach of senses.† Therefore God Himself is known by Himself.
*Link:—The Lord declared, 'He who knows in reality this glory and power of Mine, gets established in Me, through unwavering devotion' (Gītā 10/7). So Arjuna, in the next three verses, requests Lord Kṛṣṇa to tell him of His divine glories in detail.*

Lord Krishna is being addressed here as Puruṣottama meaning the Supreme Personality and it is being confirmed that only He can be cognisant of His own Self by His own knowledge and none other.
The words bhūta-bhāvanā means universal father denoting the progenitor of all beings.
The word bhūteśa means the Lord of all beings indicating the absolute controller.
The words jagat-pate refers to Jagannātha the Lord and master of creation.
The words deva-deva means God of gods and instructs that even as the devas excel in innumerable auspicious qualities of form, beauty, aesthetics, etc. over lower and lower creations such as human, animal, birds and reptiles.
In the same way the Supreme Lord excels over all devas and any other conceivable god as well.
