She separately exists as Sri, Bhu, Durga etc. Uma, Saraswati and other Jivas are her partial manifestations. “Sri, Bhu, Durga are the three forms of illusion that bind Jivas and the World. Uma, Vac (Saraswati) and others even though distinct Jivas, since they partial manifestation of Sri in Agama, they are also known as Sri” thus in Kashayana scripture. मम योनि means not the mother, but the feminine sakti existing to accept the seed of consciousness from the Supreme Lord and give birth to all life forms. “For giving birth by Sri Vishnu Sri Lakshmi, the great Maya, is devoid of all miseries. But along with Sri Vishnu she displays as if she is in misery for deluding the ignoble people”, thus in Sharkarakshya section of Samaveda. An examples is the sorrow of Sita which is merely a performance. “Bhu is distinct and the Earth is but her reflection. Even though she (the earth) is the last among the five elements, she is the origin of all the elements”, thus in Sankaryana scripture. “She accepted servitude willingly even though she is the grandmother of all the worlds”, thus in Anabhimaan Shruti. “Both Prakriti and the great Lord are both known as mahad Brahma”, even thus in Matsya Puraana.

“योनिर्भायां तथा स्थानं योनिः कारणमेव च | इति शब्दनिर्णये || अत्र योनिर्भायां - तस्मिन् गर्भं दधाम्यहम् || इति वाक्यशेषात् ||” – There are three meanings for the word योनिः - wife, female generative organ and the cause. Here योनिः means wife, because special use in the sentence – ‘in that womb I give birth’.

English3 'My womb is the 'Gross-Brahman' wherein I deposit the embryo. The origination of all beings proceeds therefrom, O Scion of Bharata. (67)
This (Prakriti-Maya) is called 'Gross-Brahman' (महद्ब्रह्म), since she is the resting place of the gross elements such as 'Mahat' and others. Oh Arjuna, all (mental) functions get strengthened because of her and so she is 'the Gross-Brahman'. The non-manifestists give it the name 'unmanifested', while what Sāmkhyas call 'Prakriti' is also the same. Oh, the great-talented one, the Vedāntis (Upanishadic philosophers) call it 'Māyā'; why waste words over it? This Māyā is nothing else but Nescience itself (अज्ञान), Oh Dhananjaya, and nescience is only forgetting one's own 'self'. There is one more feature about it viz. it is not even discernible while the reason is at work, just as darkness is not discernible while there is light. The cream gets dissolved in milk, when it is stirred up in it, but it gathers itself if left undisturbed. This nescience is like sound sleep (सुषुप्ति) wherein there is neither dream nor wakefulness nor yet rapt concentration; or like the sky which remains undisturbed and quiet when there is no blowing of the wind. One cannot be definite as to whether there is standing yonder, a pillar or a human being, but only feels that something is there; in that way, not only that one cannot discern the 'self' in its real aspect, but cannot even see definitely if it is something else: just as there exists the transition period (between the day and the night) called the 'evening' which is neither the day nor the night, (in that way), there exists nescience which is neither knowledge nor its contrary. Such a state of dubiousness in regard to the real and unreal knowledge (of the self) is called nescience, and the spirit ('self') that is shrouded in this nescience is called the 'Field-knower'. Strengthening only nescience and not knowing his own self should be known as the special features of the 'Field-knower'. This is what is called, Oh my darling, the union (योग) of the two (Prakriti and Purusha)—grasp this fact firmly—and this is the natural disposition of the highest entity—the 'self'. Following nescience, the soul (proceeds to) view his own aspect, but there appear to him many such (aspects of his own) and he is at a loss to know which of them is the real one. It is just like a poverty-stricken man, getting mad and raving, 'behold the king is coming (I am the king)' or like one recovering from unconscious state and asserting that he had been to Heaven. In that way, whatever is perceived through the deluded vision viz. this whole objectified universe, is all created from myself (the Supreme). Just as a single person under delusion while he is in a dream, witnesses himself in diverse forms, so happens to the soul, the forgetting of his own 'self'. This very problem is being clarified further to make it free from confusion, and do experience it. This 'Avidyā' (अविद्या—ignorance as opposed to knowledge) is my housewife beginningless, ever young, and possessed of qualities that defy description. 'No form whatever' is her form; her sphere (for activity) is quite immeasurable. She abides by those that are asleep (ignorant) while she keeps herself far away from the wakeful (Seers.) She keeps herself wide awake while I am asleep and she conceives by virtue of her union with the Highest reality—(the 'self'). She nourishes and develops the embryo in the 'Gross-Brahman' womb, with her eight-fold constitution. With the union of these two (Prakriti and Purusha) gets first created the element intellect and thence is born the mind, fully stuffed with the principle of intellect. Energetic consciousness (wife) of mind gives birth to the element egoism, from which come, into being the gross elements. It is the nature of these elements to be invariably associated with the sense-centres and objects; so the sense-centres as also their objects are generated along with the elements. Violent disturbance in the functioning of sense-objects is followed by the advent of the three Guna-constituents, which begin to make movements through embryonic (incipient) desires; this is the genesis of the individual soul. Just as a seed (particle), as soon as it comes in contact with water, begins to formulate the structure of the tree, in that way, with her union with me Māyā (ignorance) herself begins to sprout out diverse shoots in the form of the universe. Now, Oh you King of the Good, do hear how the embryo develops into different forms (foetuses). There get developed foetuses of different orders namely 'Manija,' (मणिज), 'Swedaja,' (स्वेदज), 'Udbhija' (उद्भिज) and Jāraja (जारज). 'Manija' is formed chiefly by the combination of the elements of the sky and the wind with the embryo. The 'Swedaja' is created by the rushing of the element water and fire in combination with the 'Rajas' and 'Tamas' Gunas. The stationary 'Udbhija' results from the predominant elements of water and earth when combined with the 'Tamas' Guna of inferior grade, while the 'Jāraja' is formed by the mutual co-operation of the five sense-organs and the five organs of action as also the mind and the intellect. These four classes form as it were the hands and feet, while Prakriti having the eight-fold constitution is the head; activism is the belly, while renunciation is the back; the eight godly orders occupy the portion of the body above the waist, the heaven is the throat region, the mortal world is the waist, the region under the earth (पाताळ) being the buttocks. A queer child constituted of such limbs and parts of the body is born (of Māyā). The three worlds form the plumpness (बाळसे) of that child, the eighty-four lakhs of species (of the beginnings) form the ligaments of the small and large bones, and this child grows day by day. The different limbs of the body are adorned with ornaments in the form of diverse names, while Māyā feeds (the child) by making it suck her breast in the form of ever new infatuations. She has adorned the child's fingers with rings in the form of diverse worlds, the brilliance of each of these being different from one another. She (Māyā) feels greatly glorified having given birth to such an only child—beautiful above description—in the form of this universe formed of many movables and immovables. God Brahmadev is the morning, God Vishnu the noon, while God Shiva, the evening to this child. It plays and (after getting fatigued) sleeps soundly on the bed of the great world-dissolution. It arises again at the dawn of the new age (कल्प) in infatuation (विषम ज्ञाने). In this way Oh Arjuna (grows and) walks sportively (this child) step by step in the form of recurring succession of aeons, in the house of false vision. Fancy is its great friend, while egoism is its playmate and such a child meets its end only through (real) knowledge. Enough of this elaboration. In this way, was born this universe to Māyā, and therein proved of great help to my own power.

English'Mama yonirmahadbrahma'—Here, the primordial Matter (Prakṛti), has been called 'Mahad Brahma', because of the following factors:—
(1) The Lord is beyond the great and the small, therefore, He is the subtlest, as well as the grossest. In the entire universe, besides the Lord the largest entity, is the primordial matter. So, the primordial matter (mūla Prakṛti), has been called 'Mahad Brahma'.
(2) The primordial matter is called 'Mahad Brahma', because
* 'Kūryate hyavaśaḥ karma sarvaḥ prakṛtijairguṇaiḥ' (3/5)
'Avaśaṁ prakṛtervaśāt' (9/8)
Rātryāgame'vaśaḥ pārtha prabhavatyaharāgame' (8/19).
it is, in between 'Mahat' (Mahattattva i.e., cosmic intelligence), and 'Brahma' (God).
(3) In the preceding verse, the terms 'Sarga' and 'Pralaya' respectively, may be misinterpreted, as Brahmā's day and night. So, 'Mahad Brahma' has been used, to denote new creation (revelation of Brahmā) and final dissolution (dissolution of Brahmā). It means, that a liberated soul's affinity, is renounced with the primordial Matter. So it is, neither born, at the time of new creation, nor are tormented at the time of, dissolution.
The primordial matter, being the birth abode of all beings, is called a womb. Infinite universes, emanate from it, and again merge into it. It is the cause of all mundane powers, and energies.
This primordial matter is called 'mama' (my), because it is the Lord's, it functions under His control, only. Without His will, it cannot do anything, through its own power. 'With Me as the supervisor, prakṛti brings forth, the whole creation' (Gītā 9/10). The Lord has used the expression 'Mama mahadbrahma' in order to explain, that He is superior to prakṛti.
The spirit in spite of, being a fraction of the Lord, establishes its contact not only with prakṛti, but also with its evolutes, the three Guṇas and their evolute, the body, having a disinclination for the Lord thus gets bound. So, the Lord, wants to emphasize the fact, that affinity of the spirit is, with God, Who is superior to His Prakṛti, as the spirit, is His portion (Gītā 15/7). Therefore, the spirit should not degrade itself, by assuming affinity with prakṛti.
'Tasmingarbham dadhāmyaham'—Here the term 'Garbham' (seed), stands for totality of beings, with their actions and past influences (latencies). The Lord, does not place any new seed. The beings, who are following the cycle of birth and death, since time immemorial, merge in Prakṛti, at the time of final dissolution (Gītā 9/7). When their actions, having become mature, are inclined to bear fruit, the Lord at the time of new creation,
Verso 4]
brings them into further contact with prakṛti (this contact was already there, with the causal body). This further gross contact is what, He means by placing the seed.
'Sambhavaḥ sarvabhūtānām tato bhavati bhārata'—After the Lord, has placed the seed in prakṛti, all beings with their gross and subtle bodies, are reborn. The birth of beings, at the time of creation, is called the discharge of spirits (Visarga), which also goes by the name of primeval action (Karma). So, it is the primeval action, or primeval idea of the Lord, which brings forth, the existence of beings (Gītā 8/3).
[So long as the spirit (Embodied Soul), is not emancipated, it continues to have its affinity with prakṛti and its portion, the causal body. So, at the time of final dissolution, the spirit with the causal body, merges in prakṛti.]
Appendix—The Lord means to say that though the self has got entangled in the cycle of birth and death, yet it is His fragment. The soul is identical in attributes with Him, not with the body.
Link:—In the preceding verse, there was description of the birth of all beings, in totality. Now, He describes the birth of all beings individually, in the next verse.

Inanimate and inert earth, water, fire, air, ether along with manas or mind, buddhi or intelligence and ahaṁkāra or ego all constitute Lord Krishna's eightfold differentiated aspects of matter.
But they only comprise His external energy and are inferior.
The mahad-brahma signifies the infinite extension of prakṛti or the material substratum pervading physical existence by dint of its being the primal source of all variegations of species and subspecies which emanate thereof correspondingly in the forms of manas, buddhi and ahaṁkāra.
Passages found in various Vedic scriptures sometime refer to prakṛti in specific circumstances in the purview of the Brāhman or spiritual substratum pervading all existence.
An example is seen in the Muṇḍaka Upaniṣad II.II.VII. beginning yah sarvajnah sarvavid which states:
“The Supreme Lord is omniscient and omnipotent and His glory is pervading through all of creation”.
He eternally dwells in Vaikuṇṭha, the eternal, transcendental spiritual worlds and simultaneously with the heart of every jīva or embodied being.
The term garbha means seed as in embryo in the form of all the animate myriad trillions of ātmas or immortal souls manifesting within the jīvas en masse at the time of their appearance.
So in the inanimate, womb like nature of prakṛti the Supreme Lord casts the animate seeds in aggregate corresponding precisely to the exact finite number of ātmas for every jīva in creation.
The purport is that the Supreme Lord impregnates material nature with souls in the form of incalculable living entities that assume unlimited forms throughout material existence, the Kṣetrajña or knower of the field of activity uniting with the kṣetra or field of activity.
Thus are all jīvas from Brahma down to a one-cell amoeba manifested by the combination of the aforementioned principles; generated by the will of the Supreme Lord.
That such manifestation is actually and factually from the Supreme Lord will be given next.
