“परिणामिकर्तारं गुणेभ्योऽन्यं न पश्यति | अन्यथा, यदा पश्यः पश्यते रुमवर्णं कर्तारमीशं पुरुषं ब्रह्मयोनिम् इति श्रुतिविरोधः | नाहं कर्ता न कर्ता त्वं कर्ता यस्तु सदा प्रभुः | इति मोक्षधर्मं ||” - The attributes see the one who causes the consequential results, no one else. Otherwise the statement other. In that case, “When the seer sees the golden coloured one, the Lord of actions, the Person, the progenitor of Brahma” would have contradicted the scriptures. “Neither am I the performer nor are you the one; it is ever the Lord”, thus has been said in Moksha Dharma.

Gītā Tātparya NirṇayaSanskritEnglishOn verses 14.19–14.21
यस्मात् मद्भावं सोऽधिगच्छति ||” - He who sees the One, who is different than these attributes, as the performer of actions, he, verily, perceives. Otherwise he would be like an animal, not only observing Sri Vishnu, the Lord of actions, as distinct from the attributes but seeing Him even superior to those attributes. How does he (the Jiva) become like this? By that perceptions be attains My nature.
She is known as Prakriti, because she creates by her luminosity. In her, therefore, are the three forms, satva, raja and tama. At the time of creation, because of her being Luminous Sri is called sat and because of her illumination as tva. Because as tva, the earth, in the process of creation she is creative (enterprise), she is called raja. Since she manifests as this earth she is called raja. Because she obscures the minds of the Jivas, she is known as Durga or tama. The un-liberated human beings are thus being controlled by these three attributes. Even though the entire three bind all, especially Sri Devi binds the gods, Bhu Devi binds the human beings and Durga Devi binds the asuras. But knowing Sri Vishnu as superior to these three attributes, they are liberated. So long as human beings accept them as extremely powerful, till then they will remain like animals in the shape of human beings. Therefore Sri Vishnu should always be considered as possessing the increased attributes, thus in Maha Vishnu Puraana. - “raja, verily, comes about mixed with pain and pleasures. In the word duhkha, dhu denotes pain and the kha denotes pleasure” thus, in Shabda Nirnaya. that tama or obscurity is caused by ignorance and always results in continuous pain, thus in Skanda Puraana.

English20 “Having transcended these three Gunas that are the root cause of the body, the embodied (self) becomes released from the miseries of birth, death, old-age and disease and attains the Immortal.” (300)
Now, what exists as qualityless Brahman, becomes known to him unerringly, since the knowledge itself has impressed its own stamp on him. Nay, Oh son of Pându, such a person of knowledge becomes one with me in the way a river joins the sea and becomes one with it. Just as the parrot (in the parrot and tube story) should extricate itself from the tube and sit with a free mind on a tree-branch, in that way, the one possessed of knowledge, getting rid of the Mâyâ (illusion) takes a seat on the original site in the form of the notion “I am myself Supreme Brahman”. One who was snoring loudly in slumber in the form of nescience is completely awake, having realised (the essence of) the Supreme Self. The mirror in the form of infatuation leading to a wavering of the mind, O the Lord of warriors, having dropped down from his hand, he is deprived even of the semblance of any sort of reflection. The fury of the storm in the form of the conceit for the body-form, having abated, O warrior, the individual soul and the Supreme Soul get united like the waves and the sea with the result that the individual soul is immediately merged in the Supreme Spirit (Brahman), in the way the clouds get extinguished in the sky at the end of the monsoon. And even after being merged into the Supreme Brahman, the individual soul has to continue in the body (till its fall) still he does not go under the sway of the Gunas that spring up in the body. Just as the light of the lamp placed in a glass-house, cannot be restrained (from penetrating outside), or just as the submarine fire does not get extinguished by the sea-water, the coming and going (ebb and flow) of the Gunas does not in any way defile the realization on his part of the Supreme Self. The Moon in the sky continues unbesmeared even though she is reflected in water, in that way, even though he seems to be continuing in the body-form, he is not affected by any body-attributes. The three Gunas, according to their whims and bias, play their role in the body, yet he (one of knowledge) does not waste even a moment in looking at them leaving aside his notion of being himself the Supreme Brahman. The Self is so much stabilised in his heart that he is not even cognisant of what takes place in his body. A serpent discards his slough (आंगिची बोळी) and enters into the region under the earth (पाताळ): who then takes care of (what does it care for) the discarded slough? So happens here: the fragrance of a fully blown but withered lotus spreads out and gets extinguished in the sky but never returns to the lotus itself; in that way one merged in Supreme Brahman, does not even know what the body is or what its functions are. Therefore birth, old age, death, and other states five in all, remain only in the body itself, the learned one remaining unconcerned in regard to them. When an earthen jar cracks and is broken into pieces, the sky seen therein automatically merges into the wide sky; in that way with the consciousness of the body having gone and the oneness with the Supreme established, what else but the Supreme Self could remain (behind)? I call such a one “Above the Gunas” since he continues in the embodied condition fully possessed of the realization of Supreme Self”. Pārtha felt extremely happy at these words (of Lord Krishna), as a peacock does on hearing a direct call from the (thundering) cloud.

English'Guṇānetānatīya trindehī dehasamudbhavān'—Though a thoughtful person (soul), has no connection with the body, yet people think him dwelling in the body. So he has been termed as 'Dehī' (Embodied Soul).
A body is evolved out of these modes. A man (soul), assumes his affinity with these modes. Attachment to these modes, is the cause of his birth, in good and evil wombs (Gītā 13/21). A thoughtful person rises above the three modes, which have been discussed, from the fifth to the eighteenth verses of this chapter i.e., he renounces his assumed affinity with them, because he clearly perceives that he (self), is distinct from the guṇas, having no connection at all, because the self undergoes no change while, the guṇas always undergo modifications. The self, has no connection even with, prakṛti (matter), from which these modes evolve. Then how could he (self), have any affinity with guṇas?
'Janmamṛtyujarāduḥkhairvimukto'mṛtamaśnute'—When a striver, rises above these three modes, he becomes free, from the sufferings of birth, death and old age, because attachment to these modes, is the cause of his birth etc. These modes, appear
and disappear, and they also undergo modifications, in their forms—Sāttvika, Rājasa and Tāmasa, while he (the self), ever remains detached and so undergoes no modifications in the form of birth, death and old age. It is because of his attachment, to the guṇas, that he suffers the pangs of birth, death and old age. One, who realizes the self, totally detached from these modes, attains immortality, which is natural.
A man (soul), by his identification with a body, regards its death as his death. He being a portion of the Lord, is immortal but, being attached to pleasure and prosperity, and having a desire to maintain the decaying and dying body, he does not realize his immortality. A thoughtful person, applying his discrimination, comes to know that he is different from the body, and thus realizes, his immortality.
Attainment of His Being, as described in the preceding verse and attainment of immortality, described in this verse, are one and the same.
In verses 7/29, 13/8 and 14/20, there is mention only of old age, there is no mention of childhood and youth. Why? The reason is, that a person does not suffer so much, in these two stages, as he suffers in old age, because in old age he becomes feeble and has not much physical power.
At the time of death, also he suffers a lot of afflictions. But, he who rises above the three guṇas, becomes free from the pain of birth, death and old age forever.
He, who realizes the true nature of the self, is not reborn. During his life he will pass through the stages of old age and death, but these will not give him pain.
A man (the self), by his identification with a body is reborn, and assumes the body's old age and pain etc., in him. The body is evolved, out of the three modes. A transcendental great person, being free from the three modes, becomes free from all the
pains, which he bore, because of his assumed identification, with the body.
Therefore, every person should realize his transcendental self, before death. When he transcends the three *guṇas* (modes), he is freed from all the sufferings, of old age and death, and he realizes his immortality, and is not reborn.
**Appendix**—Every human being has the feeling that he should live alive and never die. He wants to be immortal. His desire for immortality proves that in fact he is immortal. Had he (the self) not been immortal, he would have not desired to be immortal. For example if a person feels hungry and thirsty, it proves that there are such things (food and water) by which his hunger and thirst may be satisfied. If there had not been food and water, he would have not felt hungry and thirsty. Therefore immortality is self-evident—‘*bhūtagrāmaḥ sa evāyam*’ (Gītā 8/19). When a man (the self) in spite of being immortal, ignoring his discrimination, assumes his identification with the body viz., he assumes “I am the body”, then he is in dread of death and desires to be immortal. But when he attaches importance to his discrimination and accepts the fact “I am not the body because the body is ever mortal while I am ever immortal,” then he realizes his axiomatic immortality. The Self, ever being uniform, perceives the modifications and changes of the body. Therefore a striver instead of attaching importance to modifications and changes, should attach importance to the beingness of the Self (which is ever existent) and to his immortality.
This verse is the gist of the fourteenth chapter.
*Link:—Having heard from Lord Kṛṣṇa, the truth that the embodied soul, transcending the three guṇas, attains to immortality, Arjuna became curious to know the characteristics and conduct, of such a person, who has transcended the three*
guṇas and also the means of rising above these, and so he puts the question:—

The three guṇas or modes of material nature all arise from prakṛti or the material substratum pervading physical existence from which the physical body manifests.
When the jīva or embodied being transcends them all and realises the ātma or immortal soul which is of the nature of infinity, such a being attains mokṣa and is liberated from samsāra or the perpetual cycle of birth and death and all misery and sorrows associated with material existence.
At the time one achieves ātma-tattva or soul realisation, one assumes a spiritual body that is immortal. This is what Lord Krishna is declaring.
